Two joking statements from President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto during the Prayer Breakfast on 30th, May 2019 stole some limelight when they offered to donate some Kenyan politicians to UK .
However it was Lord Michael Hastings who triggered off the jokes from the two leaders during the annual National Prayer Breakfast in Nairobi which was held at Safari Park Hotel.
“We are just wondering if you have a spare prime minister around,” Dr Hastings said as the guests broke into laughter.
Lord Michael Hastings is a member of UK’s Upper House and was one of the speakers at the breakfast.
It is at this point DP Ruto strike his point home in a joking manner.
“We have a retired one in Kenya and since the constitution has abolished that position in Kenya, and he may not have it anytime soon, we will send you his CV, maybe you can consider,” DP Ruto responded.
When President Uhuru also got his chance on the podium, he offered to donate more politicians to UK.
You have been given an offer for one person… I have more people, I can donate to you for the next 3 years for me to have peace,” he added.
However, the victim of the big joke, Raila Odinga had missed the event since he had left the country prior to the event.
DP Ruto, being himself and cheeky, did not also spare ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi.
“I don’t know why people keep forgetting he was a Vice President. It might have been for a short time, but I suffered the same fate, I was Minister for Home Affairs for two months.”
The prayer event which saw politicians and religious leaders come together, was graced by South Sudan President Salva Kiir .
