At around 5pm on Thursday, July 14, a driver who refused to be named crashed his personal car right outside Barclays bank headquarters in Westlands, Nairobi.

He was driving in the company of his friend on their way to town. At the time of the accident, the man says that he saw a white being floating in front of his car. It had a human form.

He swerved to the curb to avoid hitting the ‘thing’ but lost control and landed in a ditch.  The loud crash gathered quite a crowd in the nearby office as a majority were closing up businesses for the day.

“Nilikua na drive tao, sasa hapa nimeona stuff ya white inatembea kwa barabara, I swerved ndio nisiichape, then nijajipata kwa mtaro, ilikua ghost cos after crash imedissapear,” he said. (I was driving to town when I saw this white apparition crossing the road, I swerved to avoid a collision and landed in the ditch – it was a ghost. It disappeared after my crash.)

Waiyaki Way from Westlands bus stop was recently fenced all the way to ABC place to help curb accidents of pedestrians getting knocked down by motorists while crossing the road.

This has reduced the number of people who criss-cross the highway by forcing them to use a nearby footbridge.
