Muhoroni Youth forward Wycliffe Ochomo has set his sights on earning his maiden cap with the national football team after being named the SportPesa/Sports Journalists  Association of Kenya(SJAK) Player of the Month for April.

Several fine performances from Ochomo guided Muhoroni to two wins, two draws and losing once in April as they bagged six points out of a possible 15.

Ochomo, who fired four goals in those five matches, including a double in Muhoroni’s 2-0 win over Nairobi City Stars, has seen his impressive display earn him his fourth call up to Harambee Stars ahead of the Tanzania and Sudan international friendlies.

“It has not been an easy journey and I thank my team mates for making me win this award. It will motivate me work hard in the coming games. It was a good month for me. Working hard in training with the aid of my coaches who fine tuned my finishing.

“This is my fourth call up in the national team but I have not earned any cap so I’m yearning to wear the national team jersey so that I can at least get my first cap,” Ochomo said after receiving the accolade when finishing their morning training at Muhoroni Stadium.

The 27-year-old, who has scored nine goals in the SportPesa Premier League to lead to top scorers chart, claimed the award ahead of Mathare United midfielder Eric Johanna, Ulinzi Stars’ John Mark Makwatta, Gor Mahia’s Jacques Tuyisenge and AFC Leopard’s Kepha Aswani.

The former Gor and Ulinzi Stars striker was voted by the SJAK Football Commission after amassing 32 points ahead of Johanna who came second with 19, followed by Makwatta who got 19 while Tuyisenge only managed 17.

He opened the month with a lone goal in Muhoroni’s 1-0 win at home against GOtv Shield champions Bandari after the team had lost 2-1to Ulinzi in their first match in  April before the team played to two successive draws against Western Stima and Mathare United.

In their last fixture of the month, Ochomo scored twice against City Stars to see his side maintain its top eight on the standings.

Ochomo joined Muhoroni last season from Ulinzi to inspire the sugar belt side finish sixth in last season’s campaign and qualify for their first Top 8 tournament.

He received Sh100, 000, a 43 inch smart television from electronics firm LG and a trophy engraved with his name while his team got Sh50, 000.
