In our Kenyan societies, being brought up by a dad and a mother is such a privilege not everyone will enjoy.

A family that comprises of a father figure as well as a mother in the house, no doubt stands the best chances to be the best for kids.

This article looks at some of the prominent Kenyans who were brought up by single mums

Dr. James Mwangi

The Equity Bank CEO was born and brought up in Kangema, in Murang’a county.

Dr. James Mwangi’s mother Grace Wairimu Mwangi (now deceased) is the woman who put the hard work to ensure Dr. Mwangi became who he is today.

He is famed for transforming Equity Bank to become the best bank in Kenya and in EA in a span of three decades.

According to Mwangi, the bank’s philanthropy through the wings to fly scholarship was inspired by his mother’s emphasis on education as an equalizing factor.

Dr. James Mwangi lost his father at a tender age forcing his mother to take over all family matters

Peter Nduati

The  founder of Resolution Insurance, is also a product of a single mother.

The beknown economist and entrepreneur made his first million at the age of 24 years old, making his mother a proud single mum indeed

 MP John Njuguna Wanjiku

He shot to fame when he won the Kiambaa Constituency by-elections.

However, Njuguna Wanjiku led a lonely life when his mum he had been depending on died in 2010.

Before that, he was being raised by a single mother after the family of six lost their father

George Kinoti 

Kinoti is Kenya’s most famed Director of Criminal Investigations. Not many know that he was brought up by a single mother.

Police spy before worked as National Police Spokesperson and was also a renowned crime buster in Kisumu, Busia, Isebania and Migori.

He was raised by a single mum in Meru.

Bishop Margaret Wanjiru 

 Wanjiru who used to hawk earrings and also worked as a toilet cleaner, is a true story of from the grass to grace.

Wanjiru who was raised up by a single mother is the founder of Jesus is Alive Ministries and was propelled to the limelight when she beat Maina Kamanda for the Starehe Constituency seat in 2007 general elections
