Kenyan sprinter Ferdinand Omanyala has sparked excitement and debate after revealing he would only race American YouTuber and streamer IShowSpeed for a minimum of USD 50,000 (approximately KSh 6.4 million). Omanyala confirmed he is open to a short-distance race but emphasized he would not participate for free, highlighting the value of his skills and reputation.
IShowSpeed, known for high-energy stunts and viral challenges, is scheduled to visit Kenya in January as part of his broader African tour. In the past, Speed has raced American content creator Ashton Hall and even competed against a cheetah in Botswana, winning both races. His Kenyan visit has sparked interest in possible challenges, including a race with Omanyala.
During a street interview, Omanyala stated that he is ready to race Speed, noting that both parties have teams that would coordinate the event. “So long as there is money, we are not doing it for free, ganji ndio inabonga,” he said, setting a clear minimum fee of USD 50,000. He added that there are no specific conditions for the race beyond this requirement.
The announcement immediately drew reactions on social media. Some fans praised Omanyala for understanding his worth, while others joked about whether anyone would meet the price. Kenyan prankster Vindee, who shared a list of celebrities expected to meet Speed, quipped that the sprinter’s fee is equivalent to what he would earn simply showing Speed around.
Other netizens speculated about the outcome of the potential race. Comments ranged from confidence in Omanyala’s victory to playful suggestions that other local personalities, like Vindee, could compete instead. Fans are now closely following the situation to see if the race will materialize and whether the financial terms will be met.
With Omanyala’s challenge public and Speed’s visit imminent, anticipation is building around what could become one of the most talked-about sporting and entertainment events in Kenya this year.
