Renowned news anchor Fridah Mwaka has opened up about her emotional and unexpected journey into motherhood, revealing that she became a foster mum to two children after they began calling her “mum” following the loss of their biological mother.

Fridah, known for her eloquence on screen, shared that this moment changed her life forever. During an interview on NTV, she described how the transformation into a mother figure came unplanned, but has since become one of the most meaningful roles she’s ever embraced.

According to Fridah, the experience began when one of the children, Waridi, looked at her and simply called her “mum.” Days later, the second child, Peshy, followed suit. The journalist said she was overcome with emotion and instantly knew her life had taken a divine turn.

“For me, I was like, ‘God, what is this?’ because I have never been a mother before, and here these kids are calling me mum,” she said.

Despite never having biological children of her own, Fridah did not hesitate to take on the role. She embraced the children with unconditional love, explaining that she saw it as a calling from God. “I decided what I am going to do is move with the grace of God,” she said. “I have seen how my mum brought me up, and if God has given me these kids to foster, then why not?”

She revealed that she has grown deeply attached to the children, especially Peshy, whom she adores wholeheartedly. She even noted that people often say they resemble each other—a coincidence she sees as part of the divine connection.

Fridah acknowledged that raising children who have experienced such a painful loss has not been easy, but she considers it a privilege and a sacred responsibility. “It is not easy at their age to lose a mother. It is by the grace of God,” she said.

Her story has resonated with many Kenyans, especially for its raw honesty and spiritual grounding. Rather than shy away from the emotional weight of the responsibility, Fridah leaned into faith, trusting that the love she gives will be enough to heal and uplift the children.

Beyond her role as a foster mum, Fridah continues to shine in her career as a news anchor. She recently addressed questions surrounding her personal life, including why she doesn’t always wear her wedding ring and speculation about her relationship with co-anchor Lofty Matambo. Fridah clarified that their bond is strictly professional and rooted in mutual respect and friendship.

Her touching story is a reminder that motherhood isn’t always about biology. Sometimes, it’s about love, presence, and the courage to step in when it matters most. Through her act of compassion, Fridah Mwaka has proven that family is built on more than blood—it’s built on love, responsibility, and grace.
