George Kimutai, the son of President William Ruto, is making significant strides in Kenya’s sports sector through his company, 82 Sports. The company focuses on nurturing youth talent, creating sports content, producing apparel, and sponsoring local teams to strengthen grassroots football.
82 Sports has been active in content creation, capturing major sporting events and promoting African football. The company recently documented the African Cup of Nations in Morocco, highlighting the continent’s talent and competitive spirit. In addition, 82 Sports designs and produces custom sports apparel, providing uniforms, practice kits, spirit wear, and team stores for football clubs.
Sponsorship is another key area for 82 Sports. George Ruto has been instrumental in supporting local football teams financially, enabling them to compete at higher levels. His company also organises tournaments that give young players a platform to showcase their abilities.
The first major event under 82 Sports is the 82 Ultimate Cup, set to run from Friday, January 30, to Sunday, February 1, at the Kenya Police Sacco Stadium. The tournament will feature eight youth teams competing for a KSh 1 million grand prize, aiming to elevate grassroots football and inspire young talent.
George Ruto, a football enthusiast and Arsenal fan, is pursuing a master’s degree in sports management in London while actively investing in his vision for Kenyan sports. His focus on structured leagues and talent development reflects a commitment to professionalising local football and creating sustainable pathways for young athletes. Through 82 Sports, George Ruto continues to expand opportunities for youth, improve football infrastructure, and enhance the visibility of Kenyan sports both locally and internationally.
