A heinous fire incident at Nairobi’s Gikomba market in the morning has left atleast 15 people dead and more than 60 others injured.
The injured were rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital where they are receiving treatment
The fire which gutted down the Kwa Mbao section leaving properties worth thousands of shillings in smoke.
St John’s Ambulance noted that at about 7am in the morning they had evacuated atleast more than 40 casualties.
At least 40 casualties [were] evacuated by St John Ambulance following huge fire that gutted part of residential and market sections of Gikomba,” said the emergence service provider.
Most of the victims who died were chocked by the fire which started around 2.30am before spreading to residential areas.
This is not the first time fire has razed down this famous market.
Oftenly the fire comes like a ritual hence the famous proverb The Annual Gikomba Market Fire Festival
The market has had about 7 fires since 2010. They are:
