At the moment least thought occurs, hiccups enter you! How many times has that happened to you? As much as you want to kill IT, the hiccup is still there making you feel uncomfortable and bothering you, right?
It is something that, no matter how hard we try, we do not understand very well why it happens. All we want is for you to disappear immediately!
Quiet, although it seems very complicated, it really is not .
What is hiccups and why exactly is it produced?
To begin, you should know that hiccups are a reaction of our body that occurs when the diaphragm (which is located just below the lungs) contracts involuntarily and the glottis closes, causing the air to pass quickly through the cords and that characteristic sound is produced.
Colloquially, it could be said that there is an incoordination of the muscles that help to breathe. This is what causes that sound and the shaking of your chest to be generated. It can be given for different reasons such drinking lots of sparkling drinks, eating too much or too fast, crying in a row and suffocated or having a fit of laughter.
Although there is no foolproof remedy to eliminate it, the truth is that there are several effective tricks that can help you say goodbye in a matter of seconds. Take note.
Homemade and effective tricks to eliminate hiccups
1. Hold your breath
It is the most used trick and, in some cases, effective. However, we have to recognize that it does not always work. Grab air, cover your nose and hold everything you can in that position. Repeat it 3 times.
2. Drink water “in a special way”
Another of the most recurrent is to drink water in a somewhat special way. You can do it on the opposite side of the glass where you normally drink (the one that is farthest from your lips). This means that you have to drink carefully and with the bent body, which will force you to normalize the work of the diaphragm. On the other hand, you can also drink normally but with your nose covered.
3. Breathe slowly
Sit on the floor and perform abdominal breaths, feeling the belly swell and deflate as slowly as you can. You must take a breath until you feel that you do not fit anything else in your lungs, hold for 7 seconds holding your breath and let it go slowly until you feel it completely empty.
4. Close the diaphragm
In a horizontal position try to take your knees bent to your chest. Hold a few seconds there and stretch again. Repeat this several times. If you cannot perform this exercise because, for example, you are in the office, try to touch your feet with your hands, as if you were going to fasten the shoelace.
5. Lemon and honey
Take a slice of lemon and add a little honey (very little, just enough to soften the bitter taste of lemon). When sucking the lemon the body will concentrate on that acid effect and you will almost completely forget the hiccups.
6. strike you to scare
Although it does not depend on yourself, hitting scares with someone who has done good things. There are specialists who argue that, upon receiving it, a sudden contraction of the diaphragm occurs and, upon receiving a different stimulus, the hiccups disappear.
Finally, you should bear in mind that, in most cases, the hiccup just happens. We should only have patience (almost always it is not that and we want it to happen to us at the moment). Of course, if you persist for hours you should see the doctor.
It is considered chronic hiccups that lasts more than 2 days and often hide other possible causes such as infections or inflammations, so it is important to visit the specialist as soon as possible so that is the guide to the most appropriate treatment.
