Media personality and author Janet Mbugua has candidly shared how her life was transformed following her highly publicized divorce from Eddie Ndichu. The two had what many considered a dream wedding in 2015, a glamorous affair that dominated headlines and captured the hearts of Kenyans. But just a few years later, whispers of trouble in paradise began to surface.

By 2019, fans began to notice that Janet and Eddie were no longer appearing together in public. The rumours were confirmed in 2022 when Janet officially filed for divorce, choosing not to reveal the reasons behind the breakup. The former couple shares two sons and has since embraced co-parenting, occasionally seen attending school events together for the sake of their children.

In a recent interview with podcaster Adelle Onyango, Janet gave an honest account of the emotional and social aftermath of her divorce. She described the experience as transformative, admitting that many of her friendships didn’t survive the transition.

“There is a difference between pre- and post-divorce. It’s like two different societies,” Janet said. “That’s when you begin to see friendships for what they really are. There are Christmas parties you’re no longer invited to, and though no one says it outright, you suddenly feel that you’re no longer welcomed as a ‘plus one.’”

She went on to explain that divorced individuals often face a subtle form of social exclusion, particularly within tight-knit communities or residential estates. “It’s a very quiet, almost subconscious profiling. Another friend of mine who went through it said the same thing—I thought it was just me,” Janet added.

Her vulnerability resonated with many Kenyans, especially divorced women, who took to social media to share their own experiences. Some admitted to facing similar alienation, while others said they were fortunate enough to retain their social circles. Regardless of the reactions, her story sparked a broader conversation about how society views divorced women and the silent judgment they often endure.

Janet also addressed recent speculation about her personal life. After sharing a photo of herself in a black dress with a sheer midsection, rumours swirled online that she might be expecting a child. However, she quickly shut down the claims, stating that she is still single and focusing on her wellness journey, including weight loss and self-care.

Despite the challenges, Janet remains a strong advocate for women’s empowerment and mental health awareness. Through her transparency, she continues to inspire others navigating similar paths—reminding them that growth often comes through life’s toughest transitions.

Her story is not just one of heartbreak, but of healing, reinvention, and hope. In the face of social stigma and shifting friendships, Janet Mbugua is charting a new course—one defined by authenticity, independence, and purpose.
