Kenya’s beloved media power couple, Lulu Hassan and Rashid Abdalla, are celebrating a significant milestone—16 years of marriage that have been defined by resilience, partnership, and unwavering love. Known for making history as Kenya’s first married duo to co-anchor a prime-time news bulletin, their journey has become a source of inspiration to many who dream of love rooted in friendship and shared purpose.

Their anniversary, celebrated on Thursday, July 31, was marked by a touching Instagram post from Lulu. In the photo, the two are dressed in stunning Arabic-themed attire, smiling warmly as Lulu captioned it, “16 trips around the sun.” The image, which captured hearts across the nation, showed Rashid in traditional garb complete with a ceremonial sword, while Lulu adorned herself in radiant gold jewelry—a tribute to their cultural pride and enduring bond.

The couple’s love story began at an emotionally challenging time for Lulu. She had just lost her mother and returned to Radio Salaam, where she found Rashid had recently joined. With no interest in romantic relationships at the time, Lulu found in Rashid a source of calm, compassion, and understanding. What began as a friendship during grief gradually grew into a deep bond, eventually blossoming into a marriage that has since produced three children and a thriving business partnership.

Together, Lulu and Rashid co-founded Jiffy Pictures, a production company behind several successful Swahili TV dramas in Kenya, including Maria, Zora, and Sultana. Their on-screen chemistry is as authentic as their off-screen relationship, making them one of Kenya’s most admired couples both in the media industry and in the public eye.

In celebration of their 16th anniversary, Kenyans flooded social media with heartfelt messages, admiration, and prayers for the couple’s continued happiness. Many praised their mutual respect, faith-based values, and how they’ve managed to blend marriage with a demanding media career.

In another tender moment recently captured on TikTok, Rashid was seen dancing to a Luo hit during a football tournament he organized. Lulu, casually dressed in jeans and a branded t-shirt, smiled and blushed as she watched her husband’s playful moves. The wholesome video went viral, showcasing yet again the lighthearted, affectionate side of their relationship that fans love so much.

For many young couples in Kenya and beyond, Rashid and Lulu represent the ideal of a love story that grows stronger with time. Built on shared dreams, deep friendship, and mutual support, their journey is more than a fairy tale—it’s a testament to the power of enduring partnership.

As they mark 16 years together, their story continues to inspire many to believe in love that is authentic, resilient, and deeply rooted in purpose.
