Kapsabet Boys High School, located in Baringo County, Kenya, is reeling from a devastating accident that occurred at Patkawanin along the Karbaret-Marigat Road. The school bus, carrying 61 students and a teacher, met with a tragic fate when it lost control near a steep slope, leading to a series of fatal consequences.

Confirming the harrowing incident, Baringo County Commissioner Stephen Kutwa expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life and the injuries sustained. According to a police report, the accident claimed the lives of one teacher and one student, while five students suffered severe injuries. Additionally, 19 others sustained minor injuries in the ordeal.

The injured Kapsabet Boys students were promptly transported to nearby medical facilities for urgent medical attention. Both Kabarnet and Marigat Mission hospitals, along with the Baringo County Referral Hospital, received the injured students, while the bodies of the deceased were respectfully moved to the Kabarnet Level 4 Hospital mortuary.

The sequence of events leading to the accident involved the bus driver losing control, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and roll multiple times before coming to a rest at the bottom of the treacherous slope. The gravity of the situation prompted swift responses from emergency services, including the Kenya Red Cross and County Ambulance crew, who rushed to the scene to provide aid and support.

Authorities have issued a cautionary advisory to motorists, urging them to exercise heightened vigilance while approaching the accident site. The tragic incident serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of road safety measures and the need for continued awareness and adherence to traffic regulations to prevent such heart-wrenching accidents in the future.
