Popular Kikuyu gospel artist Karangu Muraya has found himself at the center of a social media storm after a private conversation in which he seemingly shamed his wife, Triza Njeri, was leaked online. The audio, which features Karangu and a woman believed to be Tata Essy, has gone viral, triggering widespread backlash and sparking conversations about respect, betrayal, and accountability in marriage.
In the leaked clip, Karangu is heard allegedly discussing personal and intimate details about Triza, including remarks about her undergarments. The conversation, which also involves Essy and her friend Esther Baumbach, paints a troubling picture of gossip and public humiliation. According to reports, Karangu not only engaged in the conversation but recorded and forwarded the clip to his friends — a move that many critics have labeled a serious betrayal.
Reacting to the public fallout, Karangu took to Facebook with a lengthy and emotional apology directed to Triza. In the post, the singer acknowledged his faults and accepted full responsibility for the pain caused by his actions. He expressed deep remorse, admitting he had failed both as a husband and as a father.
“I have wronged you. I have said and done things that have caused you pain,” Karangu wrote. “I’m sorry for allowing people I assumed were your friends to discuss you. You deserve respect and protection from me, not pain.”
The gospel artist went further to explain the emotional and mental turmoil he has been experiencing, citing the illness of his brother and ongoing personal pressures as contributing factors to his instability and poor judgment. He confessed to losing focus and allowing frustration to cloud his behavior.
“I have not been mentally, emotionally, and socially stable… I allowed pressure and emotions to control me,” he stated.
Karangu’s apology wasn’t just to his wife. He also extended his regrets to his children, fans, business partners, and family, many of whom expressed disappointment over his actions. Promising to turn things around, he vowed to rebuild the trust he had broken and become a better man.
“I want to be a better father to our children, now and in the future. I ask for your grace, not because I deserve it, but because I still deeply value our family.”
The scandal also reopened public interest in Triza’s strained relationship with her former friend Tata Essy. Earlier this year, Triza had been staying at Essy’s home in Nairobi after her fallout with Karangu. However, following Karangu’s album launch in May, Triza moved out without informing Essy, who later expressed her disappointment online, saying she felt “ghosted” after offering Triza support during her lowest moments.
As the dust settles, fans and followers of the couple have taken sides, with some criticizing Karangu for betraying his wife’s trust and others praising him for owning up to his mistakes. Many have also voiced support for Triza, commending her strength and urging her to prioritize her well-being and that of her children.
The incident has served as a powerful reminder of the damage that private betrayal and public exposure can cause in relationships — and the difficult road toward healing and forgiveness.
Karangu concluded his statement with a prayer: “Mungu anipe nguvu ya kusimama tena, this time as a better man.”
