Renowned car dealer Khalif Kairo has addressed claims that his ex-girlfriend, Maria Wavinya, abandoned him following his recent arrest. Contrary to online speculation, Kairo clarified that Maria was the first person to visit him in jail and even informed his mother about his predicament.
Maria Wavinya’s Role During Kairo’s Arrest
Speaking on the “Every Other Time With Eric” channel, Kairo explained that Maria did not desert him when he needed support.
“We had a very amicable separation in November 2024. We both agreed because I told her I was not in the right state of mind. When things started going south, it took a toll on me, and I could no longer sustain the relationship,” Kairo stated.
He emphasized that the claim that Maria abandoned him was misleading.
“Wavinya was the first person to come to the police station. She’s even the one who called my mother,” he added.
Were Kairo and Maria Wavinya Married?
Kairo also took the opportunity to clarify their relationship status. While they were close to getting married, they never officially tied the knot.
“Technically, no. We were very close to getting married. I almost got in there. But when I assessed the situation in November, I realized I couldn’t handle it. The timing was bad,” he explained.
Did Kairo Suffer Heartbreak?
Despite the separation, Kairo insisted that he did not suffer heartbreak, explaining that he thinks more logically than emotionally.
“I’m a difficult person to break because I operate on a very logical level. If you’re going to marry someone’s daughter, you must be in a good position to provide for her. I don’t believe in 50/50—I believe in providing 100% for my woman,” he said.
Why Was Khalif Kairo Arrested?
In January 2025, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) took Kairo into custody. He later appeared in court on January 28, where one of his multiple fraud charges was discussed. Through his lawyer, Davidson Makau, Kairo petitioned the court for the release of his travel documents, citing the need to attend a fundraiser in the US.
Public Reactions
The public had mixed reactions to Kairo’s statements. While some commended his honesty, others questioned his need to justify his private life so publicly.
Helinah Gesare: “At least he is being honest. We wako si alienda missing siku ya Valentine.”
Joyce Wanjira: “Why justify your private life to the public?”
Minkenya: “No heartbreak means love was non-existent. When you meet your soul mate, trust me, there will be no logic and 1+1 will be 1.”
Kairo’s candid revelations have sparked debate on social media, with some praising his maturity and others questioning his views on relationships and emotional attachment.
