In a poignant gesture honouring the legacy of the late world record marathon holder Kelvin Kiptum, Housing Principal Secretary Charles Hinga unveiled a remarkable achievement: a three-bedroom house constructed at a cost of Ksh7 million. This unveiling, however, was not without its share of scepticism from some Kenyans who questioned whether the house met expected standards. Hinga swiftly defended the construction, shedding light on the innovative pre-cast technology employed.

During the handover ceremony, Hinga emphasized the affordability and efficiency of the pre-cast technology, which has been gaining global recognition for its ability to erect structures swiftly. Kiptum’s house, a testament to this technology, was erected in a mere seven days, with workers labouring day and night to meet the deadline set by President William Ruto.

The construction contractor, Navin Patel, reinforced Hinga’s assertions regarding the durability and sustainability of the pre-cast technology. Drawing on his extensive experience, Patel assured sceptics that Kiptum’s house would stand the test of time, citing examples of similar structures lasting over a decade in various countries.

Beyond the commendable construction feat, Hinga urged fellow Kenyans to consider adopting similar modern construction techniques for future housing projects. He underscored the cost-effectiveness and efficiency of pre-cast technology, advocating for its widespread adoption in the country’s housing sector.

In a touching tribute to Kiptum’s memory, the contractor pledged to construct another house for the late athlete’s father, echoing Kiptum’s unfulfilled dream. Meanwhile, President Ruto extended support to Kiptum’s family by providing financial assistance and housing under the government’s affordable housing program, demonstrating a commitment to honouring the contributions of the late marathon champion.

The unveiling of Kiptum‘s house serves as a beacon of hope for affordable housing in Kenya, showcasing the potential of modern construction techniques to provide cost-effective solutions without compromising quality. As the nation grapples with housing challenges, initiatives like these offer promising avenues for addressing the pressing needs of communities while honouring the legacies of remarkable individuals like Kelvin Kiptum.
