Local graffiti artistes will on April 9 get a chance to showcase their artistic prowess in a competition in front of a live audience.

The four competing artistes by the monikers Uhuru, Swift, Bankslave and Smokie will battle it out on Saturday at the Sarakasi Dome, Nairobi, where the winner will go head-to-head with other artistes from Nigeria and South Africa at a date that is yet to be announced.

“This is the first time ever that this kind of event will be held in Kenya. We are trying to go into urban art where talent, passion and skilful craft reigns, but we will still want the image of graffiti to stay street,” says the market manager, Eastern Africa, Moet-Hennessy Alexandre Helaine.

In addition, the winning artiste’s piece will be displayed outside the Dome on a billboard for six months.
