There has been a rapid growth in the fashion industry in Kenya. Many people consider fashion design photography, modelling and styling as careers unlike before.

Kenyans now appreciate and buy local designs and with time, retailers will stock more of local designs in their stores.

As an aspiring fashion designer all you need is the interest, the talent, an eye for fashion and training from a design school.

This will help you get more knowledge about fashion design and to understand it in detail making you stand out in a market that is competitive.

  1. Mcensal School Of Design

At the moment this is one of the top design schools in Kenya.It was launched in 2009 with one student and has risen to become the top fashion school in Kenya,producing really famous names.

Such as Brianna Kisia,who owns fashion mountain,where her collection were once showcased in the Nation newspaper.

They offer a diploma in fashion and clothing,and a higher national diploma in art and design.

  1. Buru Buru Institute Of Fine Arts (Bifa)

Buruburu Institute of Fine Arts ( BIFA) was established in 1993 under the management of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Buruburu.

It provides an ideal development opportunity in the world of Art and Design.

  1. Evelyn College Of Design 

Evelyn College of Design was started in Nairobi in 1976 as a pioneer design institution in a field unknown in East Africa. In its first year.

Evelyn College made its presence felt in Kenya and beyond, attracting students from Zimbabwe, Zambia, Uganda, Ethiopia, Namibia and elsewhere.

Full time courses are from two to three years, depending on the level of skill (e.g sewing, computers, drawing) each student possesses.

The fashion design course covers clothing construction, pattern drafting and grading, art and design, History of fashion, business studies, craft, draping and textile design.

  1. Kenyatta University

It offers a degree and masters in fashion design and marketing. The degree is for 4 years and masters is for 18 months.

The FDM programme offers high quality and dynamic training focusing on fashion design, apparel production, quality control and technical skills to enhance local and international trade in textile products.
The department held a successful fashion show in December 2012. This was a premier show that enabled FDM students to showcase their end of semester projects to the public and various stakeholders in the Fashion Design and Marketing industry.

The FDM department is also currently involved in curriculum development in partnership with various institutions of higher learning and industry players.

It was established in 1998 in response to a need for professional training in Hair, Beauty, Modelling, Fashion and Design and Instructors Course.

Qualifications range from practical Certificates, Diplomas to Advanced Diplomas.
