Following the recent verdict by High Court Judge Justice Grace Nzioka, sentencing Joseph Irungu, famously known as Jowie, to death for the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani, comedian Mammito Eunice found herself embroiled in controversy. The online community erupted with criticism shortly after Mammito dropped a video, which many deemed inappropriate and tasteless, especially given the gravity of Jowie’s situation.
Mammito, a popular content creator and comedian known for her humorous skits, featured in the contentious video singing a song and offering advice to Jowie. However, the lyrics of the song, intended to be light-hearted, sparked outrage among netizens. In the song, the comedian sings, “Jowie, Jowie, Jowieeee… Don’t you cry because you got a death sentence… See it as an opportunity to scam us… When you go to prison, you will find a man who loves you so much… You will perform your songs in the prison talent show and you will kill it, Jowie…”
Despite the comedian’s likely innocent intentions, many netizens questioned her judgment and sensitivity towards Jowie’s situation. Critics argued that Mammito had failed to consider the pain and suffering Jowie’s family is enduring, and her attempt at humour fell flat, given the seriousness of the matter.

@AlinurMohamed_ said: Monica Kimani’s family is in deep pain, Jowie Irungu’s family is in deep pain. It is insensitive for Eunice Mammito to make senseless content out of this situation. Even Monica’s family will not laugh at this. Mamito should issue an apology to the two families now.
