A marriage barely one and half years in Tana River county came into a drastic and dramatic end after the man claimed that the woman had poorly prepared pilau, a famous Swahili delicacy.
The unfortunate woman, Ms Mariam Hiribae noted that her husband had been putting pressure on her in regards to preparing the dish despite the confession from the woman that she was not an expert of the recipe in despite.
“I have told him several times that however much I tried to learn how to prepare the dish, the recipe has not been turning out right for me. I needed more time, but this time he would hear none of it,” she told Nairobi News.
The woman had pleaded with the husband to hire someone who will cook the dish nicely, but the man objected. She sought a recipe guide from a neighbour.
But after cooking and serving it to her beloved husband, hell broke loose.
I took my time to prepare that dish. I tasted it before I served. It was okay. That was the best I ever did as a learner, “she said
Her husband stood up and went to the toilet to spit the contents he had swallowed immediately after scooping off a spoon of the dish.
But when the lady was concerned and followed him, she was spared this time.
“He has never even pointed a finger at me, but when this time he lay hands on me, and accused me of wanting to kill him with a lot of spices in food, I was mad and I took a stool and hit him on the head,” she explained.
The man dashed fast to the girls parents and asked them to go for their daughter. He later rushed himself to the nearest hospital.
The lady sensing danger, rushed to see the man’s parents with a pot of the dish she had prepared.
She was shocked when the plot was changed while still at her in-laws.
The man had told his parents that the lady had been seeing his ex-boyfriend, was arrogant, poor in bed and being arrogant among other issues.
“I was shocked to hear all the accusations my husband has been reporting against me to her mother. All this while we have been smiling and loving one another,” said Ms Hiribae.
The lady was left shocked when she was handed with a divorced better known as ‘Talaka’ in Swahili culture.
“I still do not understand why he reacted this way. I loved him, we were happy. I never thought pilau would get us here, “she said.
When reached by Nairobi News, the man in drama Said Kofa defended his actions, blaiming lack of children in their marriage among many other issues.
“I owe no one an explanation for decisions I make in my life. It doesn’t concern you. Are you married? Do you have a child? How long can you live in a marriage without a child and a wife who can’t cook?,” Said Kofa defended himself
