Mary Biketi, the girlfriend of Cooperatives and MSMEs CS Wycliffe Oparanya, has publicly refuted claims that she and the CS had split and that she was struggling financially. Speculation arose after the two had not been seen together for some time, leading to widespread gossip about her lifestyle.
The rumours gained traction following an anonymous Q&A session hosted by blogger Edgar Obare on Instagram. One fan alleged that Biketi and Oparanya ended their relationship in mid-2024, claiming she was using his name to maintain her public image. Another suggested that she had moved from her upscale Kileleshwa residence to areas such as Syokimau or Mlolongo, implying that her finances had declined significantly.
Biketi addressed the gossip directly, dismissing the claims of a breakup and financial hardship. She wrote on social media: “Someone remind those two that I still reside in a beautiful leafy estate. I honestly can’t recall the last time when I was in the areas they are talking about. While I am busy on real projects in Trans Nzoia, they choose to focus on gossip and misinformation. It is unfortunate, do better.” Her post emphasized that she remains comfortable, focused on her professional projects, and unaffected by the circulating rumours.
The social media response was mixed. Some praised Biketi for confronting the gossip, with Lilianbeki Oyaro commenting, “Nobody is worth the explanation, it’s your life,” and Kamba Icon noting, “Uzuri ako na pesa yake.” Others questioned her denial and speculated about her relationship with the CS, with comments reflecting skepticism and curiosity about the couple’s dynamics.
Separately, Biketi previously revealed she suffered a miscarriage five months into 2024, attributing the loss partly to the stress following the public exposure of her relationship with Oparanya. She expressed gratitude to friends who supported her during that difficult period.
Biketi’s firm rebuttal highlights her desire to assert control over her narrative, countering unfounded claims while maintaining focus on her personal and professional life. The episode underscores the intense public scrutiny faced by individuals connected to high-profile politicians in Kenya.
