Former Harambee Stars goalkeeper Matthews Ottamax has landed an exciting new role at Radio Jambo, where he will host a weekly football show beginning Saturday, July 5, 2025. The retired shot-stopper shared the news with fans on social media, expressing gratitude and renewed purpose after enduring several personal challenges in recent years.

Ottamax, who made a name for himself playing for clubs like AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia, announced the news through a heartfelt video filmed inside the Radio Jambo studios. In the video, he invited fans to tune in every Saturday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. for what he promises will be the most comprehensive football coverage in Kenya.

“Meet the truthful voice of Matthews Ottamax. Many of you knew me as the goalkeeper of Harambee Stars, but now you’ll hear my voice every weekend on Radio Jambo,” he said. “Whether it’s local matches or international tournaments like AFCON, CHAN or the World Cup—we’ll cover it all. We have a football encyclopedia ready for you.”

The announcement was met with an outpouring of support from fans and fellow football lovers who were thrilled to see Ottamax return to the spotlight. Many commended his resilience and thanked God alongside him for this fresh chapter in his career.

In his caption, Ottamax reflected on the trials he’s faced, including financial difficulties and the heartbreaking loss of his grandson. “God’s timing is the best. After every storm, there is a calm,” he wrote. “I have found a new home at Radio Jambo. Tune in every weekend because Kandanda ni sisi—football is us.”

The former goalkeeper had previously opened up about his struggles, including joblessness and emotional turmoil, in a viral post that moved many Kenyans. His return to the airwaves marks a significant personal and professional comeback, one he credits entirely to faith and perseverance.

Now a voice for football analysis in Kenya, Matthews Ottamax brings not just expertise but authenticity to Radio Jambo’s sports programming. His presence is expected to attract a wide listener base—from die-hard football fans to casual listeners eager for candid commentary and in-depth football knowledge.

As the debut show airs this weekend, many will be tuning in not just for the game, but for the inspiring story of a man who has turned pain into purpose—on and off the pitch.
