In the wake of a seemingly routine C-Section procedure, Dr Mbiti Mwondi, a prominent figure on social media platform X, ignited a firestorm of controversy with a tweet that left netizens stunned and appalled.

The tweet in question, posted shortly after a successful delivery of twins, revealed Mwondi’s purported decision to extract the baby boy before the baby girl, to confer upon him the status of the elder sibling. “Boy child for boy child,” he declared, inciting a wave of outrage and condemnation.

Many were quick to denounce Mwondi’s actions as not only inappropriate but potentially harmful, as he appeared to prioritize personal biases over medical protocol. The tweet, which included a photo of the newborn twins with their faces obscured, was swiftly deleted amidst the growing backlash.

Dr. Yusuf Mahat, a doctor based in Ireland, voiced concern over the potential dangers of such a practice, emphasizing the importance of adhering to established medical procedures. Meanwhile, influential figures on X, such as @Asamoh, criticized Mwondi for blurring the lines between professional conduct and social media attention-seeking.

The incident prompted broader discussions about the impact of personal beliefs on medical care, with some highlighting the need for greater awareness of ethical boundaries among healthcare professionals. Wangari Grace underscored the broader implications of such actions, noting their potential to undermine the quality of care provided to patients.

In response to mounting criticism, Mwondi attempted to downplay the controversy, attributing the outcry to a misunderstanding of his intentions. However, his explanation did little to quell the uproar, as many remained unconvinced by his attempts to justify his actions.

The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the responsibilities that accompany medical practice, particularly in an era where social media can amplify the consequences of one’s actions. As the debate continues to unfold, it remains to be seen what repercussions, if any, Mwondi will face for his controversial tweet.
