John Ndegwa, widely known as MC Bull, is a testament to resilience and passion. An award-winning actor, comedian, master of ceremonies, and content creator, Bull’s journey to fame was anything but easy. His rise involved rejection, perseverance, and unshakable determination, inspiring many aspiring creatives.
Early Life and Education
Born and raised in Maua, Meru County, MC Bull attended Maua Primary School and later Narok Boys High School. Although his family hoped he would follow the family tradition of teaching, Bull pursued his true calling—media. He enrolled in a journalism and mass communication program in Nairobi, determined to carve his unique path.
40 Auditions to His First Role
Bull’s acting career began on rocky terrain. He attended over 40 auditions before landing his first acting gig. “I remember skipping classes just to attend auditions,” Bull shared in an interview with TUKO.co.ke. “Sometimes, I even asked friends to register me for multiple auditions so I could attend back-to-back.”
His persistence paid off when he secured a role in Naswa, a popular prank show. This breakthrough opened doors to roles in iconic Kenyan TV series such as Inspekta Mwala, Varshita, Auntie Boss, and Maria.
Venturing into Content Creation
In 2019, Bull transitioned to content creation, a passion he had nurtured since childhood. His debut video, an eyewitness skit, went viral, showcasing his comedic talent. However, growing his audience proved challenging. “Even with viral videos, I struggled to gain subscribers. I remember staying at 300 subscribers for nearly a year,” he recalled.
Despite the slow growth, Bull remained steadfast. His childhood passion for entertaining kept him going. He recounted a humorous childhood memory where his comic skills helped him and friends avoid punishment by making a chief laugh hysterically.
Consistency and Collaboration
Bull attributes his success in content creation to consistency and collaboration. With over a million followers across social media platforms, he emphasized the importance of building an audience and collaborating strategically. “Start by creating content that resonates with your audience. Collaborate later to expand your reach,” he advised.
He acknowledged the logistical challenges of collaboration but maintained an open mind. Alongside his content creation ventures, Bull also runs a branding and printing business and works on brand partnerships.
Looking Ahead: Mini-Series and More
Inspired by successful projects like Disco Matanga by Awinja, Bull is set to release a mini-series in 2025. “Mini-series provide a continuous storyline that keeps your audience engaged,” he explained. The script is ready, and fans eagerly await its release.
Passion Over Profit
For Bull, acting and content creation are driven by passion rather than financial gain. While he is open to returning to TV roles, his primary focus remains creating meaningful and entertaining content.
As for his approach to planning, Bull prefers spontaneity over rigid resolutions. “Life is unpredictable, and unfulfilled plans can lead to frustration. I focus on doing what feels right in the moment,” he shared.
Inspiring Aspiring Creators
MC Bull’s journey from rejection to stardom is a powerful reminder that perseverance and passion can turn dreams into reality. Whether in acting, content creation, or business, his story inspires others to chase their dreams relentlessly.
With his mini-series and collaborations on the horizon, the future looks bright for MC Bull—a creative force proving that persistence pays off.
