Rwandan striker Meddie Kagere has parted ways with Gor Mahia after he failed to reach an agreement with the club. The striker leaves the club having earlier on complained about feeling ‘unloved’ and ‘unappreciated’ by the Kenyan football fraternity- including the club, fans, media and sport’s award organizers.
Confirming the prolific striker’s departure on the club website, Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier said they were unable to meet his high wage demands. “We have tried our best to negotiate with Meddie Kagere but it’s quite unfortunate we will not be able to renew his contract because we can’t meet his high demands,” Mr. Rachier said.
Meddie Kagere arrived at the club at the start of the 2015 and signed a one year contract but failed to agree on a contract extension as the striker felt he deserved higher wages for his contributions. The striker was pivotal to a successful season with 22 goals and 4 assists that helped the club win a treble and finish the league unbeaten.
It remains to be seen whether the club will find his replacement to partner Michael Olunga before the January 15 player registration deadline by CAF. We wish Kagere the best in his future endeavors.
