Popular Kikuyu gospel singer Muigai wa Njoroge has stirred a storm online after sharing affectionate photos with his second wife, Queen Stacey, at the recent Ngemi Festival in Naivasha. Dressed in matching khaki outfits and white sneakers, the two looked cozy and carefree, sparking a wave of admiration—and criticism—from fans.
While many praised the couple’s chemistry, others couldn’t help but bring up Muigai’s first wife, Gladys Njeri. One fan reminded the singer of his humble beginnings with Njeri, accusing him of forgetting “where he came from.” The fan’s comment read, “Ulisahau kwenye ulitoka na bibi wa kwanza Njeri haki kila siku una floss na huyu.” Another follower questioned the singer’s taste, suggesting he should have dated a younger woman, claiming Stacey had aged. In typical Muigai fashion, the singer delivered a savage clapback, simply responding: “Be reminding me.”
Muigai is known for his polygamous marriage, which includes Njeri and Stacey, and he has seven children with the two women. Despite the glamour shared with Stacey, Muigai’s relationship with Njeri has been marred by controversy. In an emotional interview with Kameme FM in early 2024, Njeri revealed how deeply hurt she was by Muigai’s decision to take a second wife. She shared that the breakup led her into depression and heavy drinking, describing the pain of being abandoned at age 28 with three children. Although she did not confirm whether they are officially divorced, Njeri made it clear they are no longer together.
Muigai has publicly acknowledged that Njeri played a major role in building his music career. He previously recounted how they met in 2000 near a chang’aa den and moved in together shortly afterward. He only had KSh 7,000 when they started life together, and he credits Njeri with helping him grow into the man he is today.
Despite the separation, Muigai and Njeri are said to be co-parenting effectively. Still, public sentiment remains divided, with some fans calling him out for seemingly ignoring the woman who stood by him during his toughest years.
Whether it’s his bold music, unconventional personal life, or biting responses to criticism, Muigai wa Njoroge continues to keep tongues wagging—and fans watching.
