Comedian and digital content creator Oga Obinna has opened up about the impact of his growing brand, revealing that he currently employs 34 people through his entertainment ventures. In a candid interview, the popular host of The Oga Obinna Show addressed public curiosity and criticism surrounding his entourage, which includes a bodyguard, videographer, manager, and other team members.

Obinna, who is well known for his humorous content and energetic online presence, explained that he walks with his team not for show but because he is running a full-fledged business. Speaking passionately, he noted that his brand has grown into a platform that creates employment and sustains multiple families. He revealed that he pays his team over KSh 1 million every month in salaries, not including production and logistics costs.

“Some people frown when they see me walking around with a bodyguard. You may not understand, but I can’t stop to explain why. Others complain that I’m always with my videographer. But this person is employed, and by working together, he earns a living. He captures better footage than I could on my own, which helps us tell a compelling story. That’s employment,” he said.

Obinna added that even in months when his brand does not make profits, he dips into his own pocket to make sure salaries are paid. “I employ roughly 34 people who are on a monthly salary exceeding KSh 1 million. This amount is exclusive of production and logistics costs. Even in months when I don’t profit, I dig into my own pocket to ensure my staff is paid, often foregoing my own salary. I am directly supporting 34 families,” he said.

Beyond his core team, Obinna shared that his work helps drive employment in the wider entertainment industry. From music video shoots to brand campaigns, his projects create ripple effects across production teams and creative communities. “For example, when I hire a camera, a location, and other equipment for a music video, it creates jobs for around 50 people. This includes producers, directors of photography, lighting technicians, set designers, transportation, makeup artists, costume designers, dancers, and extras. If I hire TikTokers for dance challenges, the number of people involved can easily reach 50,” he explained.

Through his dedication to nurturing talent and building a sustainable business around entertainment, Oga Obinna continues to be a trailblazer in Kenya’s digital media landscape — proving that creativity, when paired with vision and hard work, can be a powerful force for economic empowerment.
