Former Kenya National Rugby Team star turned celebrity chef Dennis Ombachi has once again captured the attention of Kenyans, this time with an unusual culinary creation that left netizens both stunned and intrigued. Known on social media as The Roaming Chef, Ombachi recently prepared a rare and exotic meal — black chicken — that sent waves across online platforms.

The dish in question featured the Ayam Cemani, a legendary Indonesian breed famous for its entirely black appearance, from feathers to skin, bones, and even meat. This mysterious and striking bird is a delicacy that few have had the chance to taste, and Ombachi took his fans on a step-by-step journey of preparing this unusual poultry.

In his video, Ombachi started by carefully burning off the fine feathers with a blue flame. He then stuffed the chicken with fragrant rosemary, garlic, and a generous squeeze of lemon juice. The cooking process involved grilling the bird while keeping it moist with frequent dousing of water before placing it into an oven smoker. To finish, he brushed the chicken with a secret blend of chef’s juices and plated it alongside traditional Kenyan staples — crispy ugali and fresh kachumbari.

The mere sight of the black chicken sparked mixed reactions online. Some netizens were visibly fascinated, while others joked that the bird looked “poisonous” or downright eerie. The novelty of the meal fueled a flood of humorous, skeptical, and spicy comments across social media.

But the real moment everyone was waiting for came when Ombachi invited TikTok star Dylan Page to taste the dish. Dylan eagerly joined the cooking process and sampled the meat, offering a surprising verdict that set tongues wagging. “It tastes really good. It might actually be better than regular chicken. Just close your eyes and it tastes like chicken. Roaming Chef, you’re getting a ten!” Dylan enthused while enjoying the exotic meal.

The interaction between the celebrity chef and the TikToker only added to the buzz, as many Kenyans debated whether they would dare try black chicken themselves. Some applauded Ombachi’s adventurous spirit in introducing such a rare delicacy to local food lovers, while others remained skeptical about its taste and safety.

Whether viewed as an adventurous culinary journey or a bizarre novelty, Dennis Ombachi’s black chicken episode has undeniably stirred conversation, showcasing his flair for pushing boundaries in the kitchen and keeping his followers entertained.
