Pastor Dorcas Rigathi has responded with wit and conviction after Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah publicly claimed she controls her husband, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The controversial remarks, which sparked public debate, were made during a political gathering and suggested that Dorcas dictated their public appearances and decisions as a couple.
Speaking at a recent event in the United States, Pastor Dorcas addressed the claims head-on. Her response, rooted in scripture and laced with sarcasm, left the crowd laughing while firmly dismissing Ichung’wah’s assertions. She questioned why anyone would find it strange for a husband and wife to attend events together, stating, “For Jehovah God says they shall become one flesh, and they will be with each other and they will not feel ashamed. So what is wrong with me and my husband?”
Dorcas went on to reject the idea that she dominates her husband, describing the notion as absurd. “When he gives me a chance to speak, he is not giving me a chance because I hear that I sit on him. How can you sit on a man like this? A man who is causing a whole nation not to sleep? A man that even the president, the deputy president, and members of parliament hardly say anything else about? I also listen. You are such liars,” she added, drawing more laughter from the audience.
Her remarks have sparked widespread attention, not only for their humor but also for the strong defense of her role as a supportive wife. The comments come amid an escalating political rift between Kimani Ichung’wah and Rigathi Gachagua, with both leaders trading accusations of incitement and political sabotage in recent months.
Prominent figures have weighed in on the situation, with many calling on politicians to keep family members out of political disputes. Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi criticized Ichung’wah’s remarks and demanded an apology, while former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria urged leaders to avoid personal attacks involving spouses and to stick to political discourse.
Amid the controversy, Dorcas and Rigathi Gachagua’s decades-long marriage has come under public scrutiny, but the former second lady has stood firm in defending their bond. Gachagua himself recently recalled writing poems for his wife in their younger days, expressing a desire to return to that tradition now that he has more time.
Through her confident and humorous rebuttal, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi has made it clear that she will not allow political rivalries to undermine the dignity of her marriage or her place beside her husband.
