In an exclusive interview with Kenyans.co.ke, Alai recounted the events, highlighting how the armed individuals, wielding lead pipes, aggressively confronted him and forcibly expelled him from the property spanning 200 meters. Additionally, Alai’s intervention stemmed from complaints by nearby residents regarding construction noise disrupting their Sunday family time, contrary to the stipulated regulations that prohibit construction activities on Sundays.
“When I arrived at the scene, police officers were on site to monitor the activities,” Alai explained, emphasizing his efforts to uphold the law and address the concerns raised by the public. The situation escalated as captured in a video where Alai engaged in a physical altercation with the armed individuals guarding the property. Despite attempts to reason with them, the confrontation turned chaotic, prompting Alai to defend himself with a pipe retrieved from his vehicle.
The one-and-a-half-minute video ends with uncertainty about subsequent events. However, Alai commended the police for intervening and safeguarding citizens’ rights after he raised the alarm. He expressed disappointment over the wanton destruction of about 40 trees on the property, questioning how the owners intended to restore it to its original state as mandated by regulations.
Alai also drew attention to broader environmental concerns, highlighting the importance of adhering to regulations in a country where climate change advocacy has gained prominence. “We have a President who champions climate change, why is this happening?” Alai questioned, underscoring the need for accountability and responsible land use practices.
Finally, the incident involving Robert Alai serves as a reminder of the complexities surrounding land management and the importance of enforcing regulations to protect public interests and environmental sustainability.
