Women have greater ability to multitask is no secret. What is a mystery is what leads us to possess this “superpower”. Hence scientists have spent years struggling to figure out why.
Recently Swiss scientists have tried to add some clarity to the issue and have come to the conclusion that it is thanks to female hormones.
To reach these conclusions, the researchers asked 83 volunteers to walk on a tape while performing a complicated language test that markedly distracted the left side of their brain. This was how they noticed that men and women with menopause showed a marked reduction of mobility of the right arm, a movement that allows balance.
But, surprisingly, those younger women did not show this symptom. Hence, researchers associate multitasking with the female sex hormones, as these are disappearing into adulthood.
