Gospel artist and pastor Linet Munyali, popularly known as Size 8, has opened up about the personal and spiritual journey that followed her temporary separation from husband DJ Mo, real name Samuel Muraya. In a heartfelt interview, she revealed how losing sight of his good qualities and focusing solely on his faults nearly led to the end of their marriage.
The couple, who tied the knot in a private ceremony just four days after a surprise Valentine’s Day engagement, have had their relationship in the public eye for years. However, in August 2024, Size 8 shocked fans when she announced their separation, stating only that “sometimes, marriage just doesn’t work.”
In a recent interview with TV47, Size 8 broke her silence about what truly went wrong. “I thought I had reached the end. I had lost all hope in our relationship,” she confessed. “Nilikuwa nimefunga macho kuona the good in him. I focused on his flaws with a magnifying glass and completely refused to acknowledge the positives.”
This powerful admission marked a turning point not only in their relationship but also in her personal growth. During their seven-month separation, Size 8 leaned heavily on her faith. Through prayer and reflection, she began to see the ways in which her own mindset had contributed to the breakdown.
“I had to look inward. I realised I was expecting him to be perfect while ignoring the ways I could have shown more grace,” she said.
Marriage counsellor Jane Muthoni, speaking to TUKO.co.ke, noted that Size 8’s experience is not uncommon. “In the heat of conflict, people often go into survival mode, emotionally shutting down and magnifying their partner’s faults. It’s a defense mechanism that unfortunately blocks healing and reconciliation.”
Muthoni also stressed the value of temporary separation in certain cases. “The space allowed them to reflect individually, which is often necessary when communication has completely broken down.”
After months of soul-searching, the couple rekindled their relationship and stunned fans with a romantic Valentine’s Day engagement, followed by an intimate wedding just days later. The reconciliation served as a powerful reminder that love, when nurtured with faith and humility, can endure hardship.
Interestingly, this wasn’t the first time Size 8 had considered ending her marriage. In earlier interviews, she revealed she had even spoken to a divorce lawyer, feeling overwhelmed by depression and frustration. However, a conversation with DJ Mo’s mother convinced her to take a step back before making a life-altering decision.
As the couple continues their journey, Size 8’s openness is sparking conversations around grace, self-awareness, and the complexities of marriage.
Their story serves as a reminder that behind every public love story are very real struggles — and that sometimes, healing starts by choosing to see the good in the person you once fell in love with.
