Few days after the Central Intelligence Agency joined Facebook, it has decided to expand its social presence by joining Twitter with the @CIA handle. The agency has already been plagued with various controversies over the last decade, including intelligence failures as well as human right violations allegations.
A lot of US citizens have showed legitimate concerns towards the operations of the CIA while other parts of world seem to have a negative perception about the agency. All of these sterns from the secretive nature of the agency, leaving many at the mercy of judgement on the basis of imagination.
Perhaps, it’s right about time for the CIA to improve its relationship with Americans and other countries and One of the ways they believe this can be achieved is through the social media. The agency joined Twitter on Friday, starting off with a rather funny tweet.
We can neither confirm nor deny that this is our first tweet.

The funny nature of the tweet would make some of the agency biggest critics crack a smile. At the time of publication, the CIA funny tweet has been retweeted over 200k times and equally helped in increasing the agency’s followers count which currently stands at 442k. All of these happening in less than 48 hours shows that the development was long overdue.
“We have important insights to share, and we want to make sure that unclassified information about the Agency is more accessible to the American public that we serve, consistent with our national security mission.” The agency’s director, John Brennan, said in a statement.
The @CIA currently follows 25 accounts, which includes the FBI, NASA and the White House.
