University student Stephanie del Valle Diaz, 19, and without previous experience in beauty contests, won Sunday’s 2016 Miss World crown for Puerto Rico by beating 166 other candidates in the Maryland, Washington DC.

It had been 41 years since Puerto Rico had participated in the competition, trying unsuccessfully to repeat the achievement that Wilnelia Merced had achieved only in 1975. This Sunday, finally, the young Del Valle Diaz, born in the capital of the island, San Juan, .
The new Miss World 2016, studying Communication at Pace University in New York, where she is part of a special program that will allow her to complete both baccalaureate degrees in six years. She sings, paints, models and speaks fluently Spanish, English and French.
