Former gospel musician and artist manager Lawrence Munya, popularly known as Weezdom, has revealed the real reason he stepped down from managing singer Bahati. In a candid interview, Weezdom admitted that his struggle with alcoholism cost him the job and other opportunities in his career.
Weezdom’s Battle with Alcoholism
Weezdom, who first announced his departure from Bahati’s team in 2021, initially cited personal growth as the reason for leaving. However, he has now disclosed that his drinking habits made it difficult for him to fulfill his responsibilities.
He shared that he had been a heavy drinker before becoming famous and, despite staying sober for a while, he later relapsed. His return to alcohol affected his discipline and reliability, leading to challenges in maintaining his professional commitments.
Missed Opportunities and Career Struggles
Aside from mismanaging his role with Bahati, Weezdom also struggled with a job he had secured at Radio Citizen. He revealed that he was given a platform to co-host with presenter Willy M. Tuva but frequently skipped work due to his drinking habits.
Weezdom admitted that his inability to control his alcohol consumption led to missing key appointments and work responsibilities. This forced him to step away from opportunities that could have significantly boosted his career.
Bahati’s Ultimatum
According to Weezdom, Bahati noticed the negative impact of his drinking and questioned his choices. The singer confronted him about keeping the wrong company and gave him an ultimatum—to either stay on as his manager or continue drinking.
Ultimately, Weezdom’s addiction overpowered his career ambitions, and he walked away from the job. He has since acknowledged his struggles and expressed gratitude for the second chances he has received.
Moving Forward
Weezdom has now turned his focus toward rebuilding his life and career. He recently landed another radio job and is determined to make the most of it. His story serves as a testament to the challenges of addiction and the importance of making positive life choices.
