Do you know quite how popular casinos are in Kenya? Casinos, and online gambling, are a multi-million-pound industry and one that is continuing to thrive in this great country. A recent poll has suggested that at least 60% of adults in Kenya enjoy playing at casinos. These casinos see plenty of returning customers who are fans of all that is on offer.

We’re going to take a look at why casinos are quite so popular here. To be honest, though, all that you need to do is play Gates of Valhalla, a Norse themed slot, and it is easy to see what the appeal is. Of course, there is more to the popularity than a single game, no matter how great it is, so let’s take a look at the other factors that come into play.

A forward thinking country

If you take a look at other countries around the world, you will find that there are many that have a different approach to casinos and gambling as a whole. Countries such as the USA and Canada are less than liberal, to say the least when it comes to how gambling is viewed. This is something that is slowly changing over time, but it has never been an issue in Kenya.

Kenya legalised gambling all the way back in 1966. This saw sports betting, lotteries, and all other forms of gambling being allowed in the country. This forward-thinking approach has meant that the growth of casinos has never been stifled here. They have been encouraged to develop and grow.

A land-based affair

The laws surrounding casinos have always meant that players have plenty of options when it comes to where to enjoy their favourite games. Whether they enjoy slots, roulette, or poker, the country has always had more than enough locations for people to choose from.

In fact, there are some 30 plus land-based casinos in Kenya. While the majority are centred in the capital, Nairobi, there are others scattered around the country so there is never any need to travel far. This means that casinos have always been accessible in Kenya. There is no need to travel halfway across the country to enjoy your favourite games.

Online offerings

With casinos already being amazingly popular, the arrival of online casinos saw this reaching a whole new level. As the infrastructure improved, and more people had access to a stable internet connection, it became so much easier to enjoy favourite games, and there were plenty to close from.

What online casinos offered to those in Kenya, was a variety of games that they had never seen before. No land-based casino could ever fit in the sheer number of slots that were on offer online. Similarly, there was no way that any land-based casino could match the number of variants of poker, blackjack, and practically every other casino game.

The mobile casino

For a country already in love with online casinos, what went on to make this experience even better was mobile phones. Smartphones started to become more popular in the country and soon people realised that many of their favourite casino games could be enjoyed in the palm of their hands. There was no need to travel to a land-based casino. There wasn’t even any need to turn a computer on anymore.

Developers behind the best casino games made use of HTML5 technology to ensure that the mobile experience was an amazing one. This has certainly contributed to the popularity of casinos in this country.
