The WhatsApp instant messaging app starts testing the possibility of photos and videos being deleted in a matter of seconds after being exchanged between its users. The feature is already part of its less popular competitor, Telegram, which is used by many people who want to use this feature.
According to WABetaInfo, the tool will be called “Expiring Media” and, just like in the Russian app, the sender of the message will be able to choose a deadline for the file to be viewed by the recipient, being self-destructing after the pre-established time. The same source claims that it will be possible to configure the media so that they are destroyed immediately after viewing.
For this new feature, the expectation is that the scope will include photos, videos and animated gifs. A major difference between messages deleted manually and those deleted from the new function is that, in the second case, there will be no trace in the conversation.
In addition to the novelty for the media files, the information shows that the most popular messaging application in the world, owned by the giant Facebook, also tests the possibility of this self-destruction being applied to text messages, without leaving any kind of trace.
The novelty begins to awaken different points of view among users, dividing the favorable ones and those against the new change. There is still no official date for the “Expiring Media” feature to be officially launched by the application.
