A woman was beaten and stripped for attempting to deposit fake currency valued at Ksh.50,000 at an Mpesa in Meru county.
The woman who was in accompany of another man were admitted at Meru Level 5 hospital where they are nursing their injuries .
Ms Faith Wambui, shop attendant raised the alarm after suspecting the authenticity of the currency.
Elizabeth Wanjiru Kamau aged 29 and Geofrey Kamau Maina aged 32 attempted to get back the cash but managed to collect only Ksh.31,000
To confuse the charging mob, they tossed the money into the air but they were nabbed before being beaten. The third suspect escaped through the mob.
Members of the public went ahead to loot some of the fake currencies in their car before police could arrive.
Meru West DCIO George Etyang said they will confirm whether the two were from Nyandarua.
