Zari Hassan, the South African-based Ugandan socialite, recently ignited a social media frenzy after telling her husband, Shakib Cam Lutaaya, that she plans to marry another man. In a candid conversation, Zari informed Shakib that she intended to take a second husband, citing a South African law that allegedly allows women to have two husbands. Zari said, “Do not play with me, Baby I will get married to another guy. Then I can keep two husbands. You know why, in South Africa, we are allowed to have two husbands. It is a new South African law, it was passed in the Parliament, we can have two husbands.”

Shakib’s response was surprisingly calm as he simply replied, “I know you,” while gazing at his wife. The video of their exchange quickly went viral, drawing mixed reactions from social media users. Some comparisons were made between Zari and her ex, Diamond Platnumz, with one user commenting, “Zari and Diamond are not so different.” Others focused on Shakib’s indifferent reaction, with some suggesting that his response indicated a lack of concern for the situation, such as, “His answer sounds like he doesn’t care, period.”

Despite Zari’s claims, there is no such law in South Africa that permits polyandry, or women having multiple husbands. Melusi Xulu, a South African attorney, confirmed in an interview with TUKO.co.ke that polyandry is not legally recognized in the country. He stated that no law has been passed allowing women to marry more than one husband, and such discussions remain controversial.

Zari’s comments come amid a history of on-and-off moments in her relationship with Shakib. In previous public exchanges, she accused him of not contributing enough to their partnership, which led to a response from Shakib, who called her a miser and claimed she could not have children. Despite this, Zari has defended Shakib from netizens who mocked his English skills, even praising his success and boasting about his appearance on Netflix.

This conversation about polygamy has sparked widespread discussions about marriage dynamics and societal expectations in modern relationships. Zari’s bold statement, whether made in jest or with serious intentions, has undoubtedly caught the attention of the public, raising questions about the evolving nature of relationships in today’s world. While some netizens support her stance, others remain skeptical, highlighting the ongoing debate around marriage, love, and partnership.
