Fouzia Abdikadir
Focusing on alternative economic livelihoods and the rights of women and children: Fouzia Abdikadir is the Founder and Executive Director of the Northern Organization for Social Empowerment (NOSE), an NGO working for the welfare of the people of Northern Kenya. She prepares programs which allow people to transform from a nomadic lifestyle to agro-pastoralist in the efforts to diversify their economic sources and shield them from poverty. Tireless in her endeavors, she has also worked with the National Cohesion and Integration Commission. She has partnered with the National Gender and Equality Commission to sensitize the Sexual Gender Based Violence issues in Northern Kenya.
Fouzia has a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) degree from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. She is also pursuing a Master of Business Administration (Finance) at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff.
As a YALI Fellow, Fouzia plans to advance her community development programs that will see her community change from the nomadic dependency culture to a more diversified culture where women and children are afforded equal social-economic rights and the community as a whole is lifted out of poverty.
