On the morning of 7th May 2019, former Government Spokesperson Erick Kiraithe was sent parking when President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed Colonel (rtd) Cyrus Odhiambo Oguna as the new Government Spokesman.
From the stamen signed by ICT CS Joe Mucheru, the government’s move to reshape communication structures took effect immediately
“In line with directions from the Executive Office of the President through the Head of the Public Service, the office of the Government Spokesman shall be domiciled at the ICT Ministry,” the statement read.
Below are 10 interesting facts about Cyrus Oguna
- Colonel Oguna will be tasked to oversee the role of all government communication channels under the ICT Ministry.
- He is not new to the Public Relation docket, Colonel Oguna had previously held experiences in management of personnel, operations and communications
- During the KDF’s operation Linda Inchi, he became the face of KDF with his great eloquence and enthusiasm. His mastery of answering nosy reporters was also well on spot during his hey days in KDF
- However he faded away from public when KDF merged with AMISON in fight against terror group Al Shaabab
- Under AMISON, he still managed to head over the Public Information Unit, a post he would later drop when duties changed hands between AMISON leading nations among them Kenya, Burundi, Uganda Sierra Leone and Djibouti
- Currently, hold a BA degree from the UoN, and is pursuing a Master’s Degree also at the UoN in International Relations. He is also a graduate of the coveted National Defence College
- Previously Colonel Oguna was among the top candidates who were on the verge of replacing anti-graft body’s EACC chief executive officer, a position currently held by Twalib Abdallah Mbarak.
- Colonel Oguna also previously worked as the Joint National and Resource mapping Project Spokesman.
- The KDF member also worked at the Defense Advisor/Attaché at Kenya High Commission in Tanzania. 2014-2017. He also served as the head of KDF’ Intelligence Training School.
- During his career, he has earned prestigious national awards among them Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear
