We walked through the deep thicket, hues of dark green foliage surrounding us. Exhausted but keen to discover; to learn & experience new things. A disconcerting high pitched noise increased in volume as we ventured deeper. It was a choir of insects stridulating. Reminding us that while they could barely be seen, they too are masters of the jungle. The path was made up of brown dirt, uneven, with roots of the massive trees & bushes protruding here & there. In places stone paths had been created, they were worn, old, broken & dangerously uneven. Each step required great care. Every now & again I thought about snakes & picked up my pace. Then, my inner voice spoke out, "If I twist my ankle it will take us hours to get out of this forest," I then slowed my pace down & walked with even more care, all while keeping an eye on my little ones, hubby, & the guide. Hot and humid, beads of sweat trickled down my face, my clothes were sticky, I felt dirty & tired, it was the end of a long adventerous day. "We should have done this in the morning," I grumbled to myself wondering if I should call on the guide to allow us to stop, go back & reconvene the next day. I heard some of our team express the same sentiments in low tones. But no one spoke up. We trudged on. Finally, in the distance we heard the sound of gushing water, people laughing & talking. A sense of relief, we were nearly there! Within about 200m of winding steps & careful manouvering we came to an opening, I immediately felt the gust of a cool gentle breeze. Heaven! I looked up & gasped… there it was, the majestic gushing waterfall in the middle of a clearing, with pools of water surrounding it. My boys & I wasted no time – costumes on & into the water. There were children & adults already enjoying the experience. I took deep breaths & went in… it was cold, refreshing. I waded to an uninhabited corner, turned & looked up at the wonder of it all, the incredible waterfall. Meanwhile, my love was taking pics, he captured the moment β™₯️β™₯️β™₯️ Walking back was easy. We all felt renewed. ***Sometimes we want to give up in the middle of a journey, if you are going in the right direction, just KEEP MOVING. πŸ™
