Slide 2 of 42: The warning lights on your dashboard aren’t mere decoration. Each one means something, and none of them should be ignored. While a check engine light could indicate something as trivial as a loose gas cap, a brake or tire pressure monitoring system could mean a significant safety problem.Best advice: Get it checked out as soon as possible to avoid having a small issue become a big problem. Whatever you do, don’t “solve” the problem by putting a piece of electrical tape over the light to cover it up.

But if you are aware if this, there are way you can control this striking reality.

The tips YVK presents here will save you majorly in three of the following occasions

  1. Avoiding your car to easily break down in the middle of the road
  2. Saving you cash at the auto repair shop
  3. Maintain the value of your car

What to avoid

1.Ignoring dashboard warnings lights

Ignoring important dashboard warning can turn out to be a serious disaster. The best thing to do is to see a mechanic who should diagnose simple issues such as brakes, tire pressure or safety concerns

2.Hitting Potholes

What most drivers would rather do on a road that looks like the surface of the moon, is to run through the holes. It is a big mistake that costs your wheel alignment, tires and mess around with break suspension components.

Always seek to avoid them or slow down completely.

3.Not occasionally checking engine oil

Even though most engines today ca go long without changing oil, this is not a good idea. It puts your engine at a very great risk.

Besides changing oil, its filter should also be serviced to put your engine at safe hands. Remember it is like your heart. It should never stop working

4.Periodic Maintenance and repair

Ignoring the day you are supposed to visit your mechanic again is not a good idea despite the car looking okay.

One should form a habit of visiting a skilled mechanic who can easily pick out a ticking distaster.

5.Procrastinating major repairs

Most car owners would rather save cash and hurriedly avoid a major repair. This is equaly dangerous.

Take for example, not repairing headlights will cost a traffic offense, ignoring new brake pads becomes a safety concern and a big bill to foot on brake rotors.

6.Checking And Inspecting Tire pressure

Car tire pressures should be checked on a daily basis. It is simple as it comes on the user manual. Besides proper management of tire pressure saved fuel.

One should also inspect the condition of the tires regularly to identify any fault

7.Not using Parking handbreak.

The car can survive on a parking gear in a parking lot, but this is a safety and gear transmission hazard.

If the car rolls away in the parking, this would be so costly, besides leaving the car not on a handbrake will cause stress on the parking gear.

8.Waxing and Washing it on time

One should lubricate and wax moving parts of a car on time, besides washing it should be a often habit.

9.Not driving it for along time

It is so ironical that not driving your car and letting it sleep in the parking lot would rather kill your car so fast.

Here are 5 deadly processes that can easily kill your car if you leave it in parking for long

  1. The battery begins to die out of life
  2. The fuel become more stale
  3. Tires begin to lose round shape and become loose
  4. Paint faint and rust takes over
  5. It also  invites critters to turn it into their own condo

One should regularly drive it to get the fuel flowing and battery recharged or just prepare the car to go into slumber.

The car should also be driven for longer distances to allow the mechanism processes to adopt into the system. The car should never drive on short trips that one can walk. The engine needs to warm enough.

10.Paying attention to leaking fluids

Paying attention to leakage of fluids can give you hint of a less or serious attention.

Such as

  1. Water- Air conditioner- which is okay
  2. Black or brown oily – Motor oil
  3. Red liquid- transmission or power steering fluid
  4. Clear or brown slick liquid – brake fluid
  5. Yellow, green, or pink liquids- Coolant
