Today, everyone is looking for fame on social media, especially Facebook. For leaders and celebs, Facebook offers a platform to connect with public. The Mark Zuckerberg site literally closes the gap between celebs and fans. By following these individuals on Facebook, you get real-time updates on what is going on in their lives. In addition, you can easily share your mind with them on their timelines, TLs, or via inbox. So, who are the queens, Kings and giants of Facebook in terms of likes? Here are top 10 Kenyan celebrities with most followers on Facebook:

  1. Uhuru Kenyatta –2.1million+

Uhuru Kenyatta is a celeb in Kenya by virtue of being the President of the republic. Minus presidency, he would probably not feature among the top 100 famous Kenyans online. His Facebook Page mainly highlights his official activities, decisions, trips, current affairs and his opinions on personal and national matters.   1. Daniel “Churchill” Ndambuki aka Mwalimu King’ang’i – 1MILIION+

With over 1.7 milion Facebook likes, Churchill Show host, Daniel Ndambuki is the most followed Kenyan comedian. The celebrated King of comedy was the first Kenyan to hit 1 million likes on Facebook. Mwalimu Kinga’ngi’s Facebook Page carries updates on his Churchill Show that runs on NTV and Maina and King’ang’i Show on Classic 105. His bio data on Facebook describes him as a comedian, actor, mc, radio presenter, director and producer and a friend. The award winning 2013 fan page of the year also has hilarious posts that leave his fans in stitches. His posts are always followed by unwinding threads of comments.

  1. Lupita Nyong’o 2.6 million+

Kenyan-Mexican star actress Lupita Nyong’o has over 2.6 million likes on her Facebook page. The academy award-winning actress based in USA and the Oscar award winner is well known for her outstanding role in the 12 Years a Slave drama, released in 2013.

  1. Caroline Mutoko – 900K +

Caroline Mutoko is one of Kenya’s finest radio personalities. After more than a decade on air, Mutoko is currently in managerial position at Radio Africa Group. The controversial single mother uses her Facebook Page to share opinions and wait for comments and judgment from her fans. She also updates current events and those she attends. Mutoko is among the aging celebrities that Kenyans will soon have to forget about.

The flamboyant Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko equally commands an online following. Sonko, known for his flashy dressing has over 724K likes on Facebook. He describes himself as: “Solution to all problems facing you in Constituency.” The self-made celeb-cum politician is the brain behind the defunct Sonko Rescue Team. He updates inspirational stories on his TL. In some cases, he updates his fans with jokes, and information on his daily activities.

Like his boss, Deputy President William Ruto is famous online courtesy of the office he holds. Mr. Ruto uses his Facebook account as a government ‘PR tool’. The updates focus on what the government is doing, or plans to do plus his day-to-day activities. Nothing more than this.

Every Kenyan knows NTV’s Larry Madowo for one thing, Pride. He hosts The Trend on Friday and anchors news. Madowo, who is overly full of himself, has over 660K followers. Larry’s TL is mainly about himself, how he hosted ‘Ericsson’s Africa Night on Monday in Barcelona’, complaining about poor services by some service providers, engaging in brawls with bloggers like one Cyprian Nyakundi etc. The news tech editor also updates his admirers on the issues he discusses during The Trend.
