Content creator Elliot Berry, popularly known as Reverend Dad or Mlami Mwitu, has officially become a Kenyan citizen through naturalisation. Berry, a foreign-born influencer, celebrated the milestone on social media, sharing that he now holds an ID, passport, and certificate of nationality.

Kenya’s Constitution allows foreigners who have lived in the country for over seven years, demonstrate adequate knowledge of Kenya, and have no serious criminal record to apply for citizenship. Berry, who has lived in Eldoret for several years, qualified under these conditions.

The content creator first gained attention for his impressive command of Kiswahili and Sheng. Before moving to Kenya, Berry worked as a model in the UK, earning between KSh 20,000 to KSh 30,000 per hour. He described the process of obtaining citizenship as long and tiresome but expressed excitement at finally becoming a Kenyan. “I’m happy to announce I am now officially a Kenyan citizen, through the long process of naturalisation! It’s been a tiresome process, but here I am: ID, passport, and certificate of nationality! Now you have been looking for a green card and I have been here looking for a blue passport,” he wrote on Instagram.

Social media users reacted with a mix of humor and support. Comments included, “Chukua kura mzee,” “Sasa register kama voter tunakuitaji 2027,” and “Try to get citizenship in his country of origin and you’ll see dust.” Others highlighted the irony of foreigners seeking Kenyan citizenship while locals pursue opportunities abroad.

Berry’s naturalisation marks a significant personal milestone and reflects Kenya’s inclusive legal framework for long-term residents. Fans and followers celebrated the influencer’s achievement, recognizing his dedication to integrating into Kenyan society.

This development also positions Mlami Mwitu to participate fully in civic life, including voting, further cementing his status as a prominent figure in Kenya’s digital and cultural landscape.
