Ahmednasir Urges Ruto to Address Trust Issues, Claims Leadership Changes Not Solution

In a recent statement, prominent lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has expressed concern over President William Ruto’s handling of key issues facing his administration. He argues that the core challenge lies not only in economic difficulties but also in a significant deficit of trust and governance, necessitating a fundamental shift in Ruto’s leadership approach.

Ahmednasir highlighted that despite recent attempts to stabilize the nation—including the appointment of leaders from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to his Cabinet—public confidence in Ruto’s leadership remains low. He noted, “The economy isn’t the main problem he faces. Ruto faces a huge trust and governance deficiency that requires a fundamental change in his ruling style or philosophy.”

Ruto’s reshuffling of his Cabinet was seen as a response to protests that erupted earlier this year, yet Ahmednasir argues that these changes have not significantly improved public perception of the government’s effectiveness. He stated, “That reshuffle bought Kenya peace but didn’t change the fortunes of the government with Wanjiku [the common citizen].”

With the recent appointment of Kithure Kindiki as Deputy President, Ahmednasir believes Ruto has a crucial opportunity to reorganize his government and rebuild trust among Kenyans. He remarked, “Another priceless chance for Ruto to steady the ship and change the riotous and poisonous mood of Kenyans against his government. Another cosmetic change won’t do.”

Additionally, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who was recently ousted, expressed no resentment towards Ruto and urged him to fulfill his promises as he seeks a second term. Gachagua called on Kenyans to allow their leaders to focus on improving the country, emphasizing the importance of delivering on commitments.

As political dynamics continue to shift in Kenya, the call for a deeper, more genuine transformation in leadership resonates with many citizens seeking stability and trust in their government.
