Kenyan social media personality Andrew Kibe has once again ignited debate with his remarks about women and social events. His recent appearance on Alek Mwakideu’s podcast drew widespread criticism online, while a minority of followers expressed agreement with his views.
During the podcast, Kibe explained that he avoids attending weddings and funerals, even for close family members. He shared a personal experience where he chose not to attend the funeral of a former partner who had passed away, arguing that participating in such events is unnecessary since the person is already deceased.
Kibe described his worldview as centered on himself, stating that family “starts and ends” with him. He expressed disinterest in social gatherings, urging people not to invite him, and blamed the increasing involvement of women in organizing these events for turning them into what he considers “overly dramatic or superficial” occasions.
His most controversial remarks concerned the role of women in society. When asked by Mwakideu about women’s place, Kibe responded, “Getting babies and raising them for men. There is no other job for a woman. Don’t lie to yourself. Once women get that, it is easy for them to understand who they want to get the babies from.” He added, referencing Mwakideu’s three children, “Now imagine a man like you with three children. What a waste!”
The comments triggered significant backlash on social media, with many criticizing Kibe for promoting outdated and restrictive views about women. A few followers, however, supported his perspective, reflecting the divisive nature of his statements.
Kibe’s remarks have reignited conversations in Kenya about gender roles, societal expectations, and the influence of social media personalities in shaping public opinion. His unapologetic stance ensures the debate will continue to attract attention in online spaces.
