Kenyan singer and reality star Kevin Bahati has revealed new details about the legal dispute involving football star Victor Wanyama, triggered by an old photo of the athlete with Bahati’s wife, Diana Marua.
According to Bahati, Wanyama took legal action against him after he reshared a throwback picture of the footballer with Diana. The photo, which had previously circulated online, was used by Bahati to create buzz ahead of his Netflix reality show launch — but the move didn’t sit well with Wanyama.
Bahati: “Victor Wanyama Took Me to Court”
Speaking candidly during an interview, Bahati said he was surprised to receive legal documents from Wanyama’s team. He explained that the footballer had initially tried to reach out through his brother, McDonald Mariga, who is also a friend of Bahati’s.
“I love this guy, but he took me to court,” Bahati said. “I don’t think it was malicious. He tried to reach me and I didn’t see his messages in time. Mariga also tried to warn me, but I was too busy preparing for the Netflix show.”
Bahati added that at the time, he wasn’t following Wanyama on social media, which made the communication delay even longer.
Why Did Wanyama Sue Bahati?
Victor Wanyama’s frustration stemmed from Bahati reposting an old photo of him and Diana Marua, suggesting a possible past connection. While Bahati claimed the post was meant to be lighthearted, Wanyama viewed it differently — leading to legal proceedings.
“They served me with court papers,” Bahati recalled. “I explained to Victor that the picture was already online. I was just trying to show people it’s not a big deal that Diana took a photo with him in the past.”
Bahati later apologised, both publicly and privately. He said he did not want to escalate the matter and respected Wanyama’s concerns.
“He even came to court in person. I told him, bro, I’m sorry. I posted the apology online, but I explained that I had to include the picture so people understood what I was apologising for.”
Diana Marua and Public Perception
At the centre of the controversy was Diana Marua, Bahati’s wife and co-star on their reality show. While the photo wasn’t recent, its resurfacing caused a stir among fans and reignited discussions about her past.
Bahati said the post was never meant to offend Wanyama or his family, and he suspects external pressure may have played a role.
“I think what pushed Victor to act was pressure from his wife. When I posted it, I wanted to show people that it wasn’t a big deal — and that I still respect him.”
Bahati Talks About Family Tensions
In a separate revelation, Bahati opened up about strained relationships within his own family. The singer shared that he has three brothers — one of whom sadly passed away — and an older sister. However, he no longer sees eye to eye with his sister, who once accused Diana of stealing money from him.
Bahati claimed she even sent a fake prophet to warn him about Diana, straining their bond further.
“I still talk to her, but that broke my heart. It’s hard to move on from that kind of betrayal.”
Despite the Drama, No Hard Feelings
Bahati concluded by saying that he still has love and respect for Victor Wanyama, and the court experience taught him to be more cautious with what he posts online.
“I genuinely love the guy. It was just a misunderstanding. We’ve all learned something from it.”
The incident has become one of the most talked-about showbiz dramas this year, blending celebrity, football fame, and social media — a cocktail Kenyans can’t get enough of.
