Becoming human
Let’s go back and apologize to the women, old enough to be our mothers, that we conned money,
Before they strip naked and bow in our presence,
To curse us,
Are we ready to see the nakedness of our mother’s age mates?
Now that we have found true love,
And are planning to get married,
Let’s look for the girls we used for sex,
The innocent ones we used their private parts for sexual experiments in tiny college beds,
Before they storm inside the church to interrupt our wedding ceremony,
With bitterness in their souls,
Are we ready to lose the one our hearts have chosen to love,
In sickness and in health,
For better,for worse?
Now that our lovely wives are pregnant,
And we are hoping for a child,
Let’s go back and search for the village girls we took advantage of and lured into our ‘simbas’ on Christmas eve,
When we got wind that they were pregnant,
We packed and left for the city,
We don’t even know what became of the unborn child,
Whether he or she was delivered or aborted and thrown in the wild,
Lest the gods get angry and revenge by striking our pregnant wives with lightning,
So that they miscarry and become barren!
Are we ready to cope with it?
