In 1989, the Berlin Wall was torn down in a peaceful revolution, leading to Germany’s reunification on 3rd October 1990. It paved the way to a free, more inclusive, liberal and progressive society in all of Germany. This was possible due to the great engagement and courage of many who came together in a vision to overcome the political as well as physical obstacles that divided our country.
In celebration of the 32nd anniversary of Germany‘s reunification, and for the third year in a row, the German Embassy Nairobi is initiating a mobile phone video competition addressing Kenyans to tell their stories on the theme of tearing down walls and overcoming obstacles today.
Today, we all live in societies where we face many every-day obstacles as individuals or even together, whether in Germany, Kenya or elsewhere in the world.
We would like to know from you: Which obstacles do you see today for your individual progress or progress of society as a whole? Je, ungependa kubomoa ukuta gani?
Tell us your story in a short video on how you overcame obstacles. Which walls you would like to tear down that separate us as people today? Show us until 31st August what you would like to see changed.
Reach a large audience through your participation on all major social networks in Kenya, and win one of the following prizes:
- A videographer starter pack consisting of an iPhone 12 (128 GB), a steadycam and a clip-on microphone to continue your creative voyage as a mobile video artist.
- A brand new iPhone SE (2020), a tripod and a clip-on microphone.
- A brand new Android Smartphone and a microphone.
In addition, all the top 10 entrants of the #BomoaUkuta 2022 competition will also get the opportunity to participate in a Mobile Filmmaking Masterclass and meet established Kenyan filmmakers.
The winners will be announced on October 3, 2022 during the Day of German Unity celebrations.
Please note that the prizes are to be redeemed in Nairobi and that the German Embassy cannot reimburse any travel expenses to or from Nairobi, or other expenses incurred due to participation in the contest.
