Skills Instructor Jobs at Norwegian Refugee Council, Kenya
(Electrical and PV solar installations)-Re-opened – Kenyan Nationals Only

Main purpose of the position

  • Overall responsibility is to implement Youth Education and livelihoods Project by imparting Knowledge, Vocational Skills, life Skills and develop character of students through training that will instil inspiring attitude and Skills that will improve their livelihood, increase chances of being self-reliant and protection.

Skills Instructor Job description

Curriculum implementation and evaluation

  • To prepare all professional records for curriculum implementation
  • Develop teaching/learning resources for effective teaching and motivating lessons
  • Prepare and keep records and use them to improve teacher and learner performance
  • To submit evaluations, attendance sheets and reports each month to the Youth Education and livelihoods project assistant. (a)The trainer should keep proper records including (b) Schemes of work/Work plans, (c) Lesson plans and lesson notes,(d) Record of work covered, (e) Learners’ evaluation and progress records,(f) Stock records for all training materials, tools and equipment in your work station.
  • Conduct continuous assessment tests and terminal exams, mark and record results.
  • Train and lead learners in core curricular activities and maintain trainee discipline; guidance and counseling of trainees
  • Participate in curriculum review
  • Mentoring incentive instructors in modern approaches in vocational training
  • Train incentive instructors on production of low cost teaching materials
  • Facilitate learning of asst. teachers in maintenance of equipment, tools and Materials
  • Develop in the teacher the ability to communicate effectively.
  • Facilitate Community participation in promoting vocational Skill training. Participate in PTA meetings
  • Involve the refugee community through the school PTA to support education
  • Encourage the community to give girls equal chance in education through mobilization
  • Encourage the school committee to make the school compounds environmentally friendly and barrier free.
  • Managing teaching and learning resources
  • Responsible for proper management of teaching and learning resources issued for promoting teaching/learning environment i.e. textbooks, teaching aids and desks and others materials.
  • Accountable for keeping proper and accurate inventory and report on any discrepancies loss or damage of materials/tool/equipment assigned.
  • Ensure proper utilization of all materials, tools and equipment for teaching.
  • Ensure proper storage and safety of equipment after use by students
  • Carry out basic maintenance of tools and equipment whenever necessary.
  • Responsible for basic repairs of machines and equipment while executing duties.
  • Promote partnership with local educational Institutions
  • Conduct community mobilization and sensitization on significance of Vocational education.
  • Initiate close relationship with other instructors of local training centres to share approaches.
  • Develop refugee inter-school competition in co- curricular activities as sports, games, and drama and music festivals.
  • Link the trainers with potential business and institution for training, apprenticeship or attachment.
  • Development of Human Potential in Students
  • Prepare high achieving students in vocational Skills and life skills.
  • Develop the learner’s potential and abilities

Qualifications for Skills Instructor Jobs

  • A certificate, diploma or higher National diploma in Electrical Engineering –Power option.
  • Technically/professionally qualified vocational skills background from a reputable training institution
  • Excellent interpersonal and Communication skills.
  • 2 years relevant experience in hands on training on Electrical Wiring.
  • Proficiency skill in Electrical wiring-Power Option.
  • Proficiency skills in Electrical and PV solar installations.

Education field

  • Engineering sciences & technology
  • Education title: Electrical Engineering – Power option

Education level

  • Academy college / University

Personal qualities

  • Adaptable to new educational methods and approaches.
  • Clear vision ,Creativity, accurate and keen to detail
  • Flexibility, reliability and a team spirit.
  • Ability to work long hours and in challenging situations
